Parks Cleansing Operative

We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Streetscene team, carrying out day-to-day cleansing duties across parks and open spaces.

This is a hands-on, outdoor role where you will play a key part in maintaining clean, safe and welcoming public areas. Working as part of a supportive team, you will help deliver a high-quality and consistent service.

Location: Bennet Road Depot, 19 Bennet Road, Reading, RG2 0QX
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am start
Start Date: End of January 2027

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out litter picking and general cleansing duties in parks and open spaces
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness in line with set schedules
• Conduct visual inspections of children’s playground equipment and safety surfacing, reporting any defects
• Support other operational teams during peak periods
• Ensure public safety and apply byelaws and regulations appropriately
• Drive vehicles (up to 3.5 tonnes) to transport equipment, materials and waste
• Carry out basic maintenance checks on equipment

• Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks
• Reliable, safety-conscious and able to work independently or as part of a team
• Take pride in maintaining clean and safe environments
• Good communication skills and a professional approach

Requirements

• Full UK manual driving licence (Category B or C1)
• Confident driving vans or tipper vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes
• Licence will be checked prior to driving duties
• Basic knowledge of manual handling or grounds maintenance is desirable (training provided)
• Experience in playground inspections (RPII Level 1) is beneficial but not essential
