Highway Inspector – Road Safety & Customer Engagement

Location: Oxfordshire

Salary: £30–£35 per hour

Hybrid working: 2–3 days in the office

We are looking for an experienced Highway Inspector to join our team in Oxfordshire and help keep the highway network safe, compliant and well maintained. You will be responsible for:

• Carrying out planned and ad hoc highway safety inspections.
• Identifying, assessing and reporting defects.
• Monitoring highway works and ensuring compliance with standards.
• Managing customer enquiries, complaints and stakeholder communications.
• Maintaining accurate inspection records and supporting claims and legal requirements.
• Contributing to maintenance programmes and continuous service improvement.
• Knowledge, skills and experience
• Experience in highway safety inspections or a similar environment.
• Knowledge of the Highways Act 1980 and Section 58 defence.
• Knowledge of the Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure Code of Practice.
• Strong customer service and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to assess risk and prioritise workload effectively.
• Competence in inspection systems and reporting tools.

About you

You will have strong communication skills, a practical approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while managing a varied workload.

A full driving licence and willingness to travel across Oxfordshire are required.
