Private Rented Sector Officer

Location: Braintree, essex 

Duration: Initial 3-month contract

Rate: £33.00–£35.00 per hour (umbrella)

Working Pattern: 1–2 days required in the offices

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing professional to play a key role in preventing and relieving homelessness by securing suitable private rented accommodation for households referred through Housing Services. As a Private Rented Sector Officer, you will proactively identify suitable properties, develop strong relationships with landlords and letting agents, and support residents throughout the process of securing and moving into accommodation. Working closely with the PRS Tenancy Sustainment Officer and wider Housing Services team, you will help ensure households are successfully placed into sustainable accommodation and receive the support they need to achieve positive tenancy outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Property Procurement
  • Negotiate tenancy terms and arrangements with landlords and letting agents to maximise housing opportunities.
  • Manage a caseload of households seeking accommodation through the PRS Scheme.
  • Provide advice and guidance on private renting, tenancy responsibilities and housing options.
  • Support residents with move-in arrangements and ensure all required documentation and processes are completed.
  • Attend meetings with landlords, residents and partner organisations as required.
  • Performance and Compliance
  • Monitor property placements and tenancy outcomes.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant housing legislation, policies and procedures.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Experience working in housing, homelessness prevention, tenancy management, lettings, estate agency or a related field.
  • Experience building effective relationships with landlords, letting agents, customers and partner organisations.
  • Knowledge of the Private Rented Sector and housing options available to residents.
  • Understanding of housing legislation, homelessness duties and tenancy management principles.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
