Migrant Support Worker
Job Description
4Recruitment Services are seeking a Migrant Support Worker to work for our client based in Rugby.
The Migrant Support Worker will provide practical, emotional, and housing‑related support to migrant individuals and families who are facing barriers to settling safely and independently in the UK. The role focuses on helping people understand their rights and responsibilities, access essential services, overcome language and cultural barriers, and move towards stable, sustainable accommodation.
The postholder will work closely with Housing Officers, statutory partners, and community organisations to ensure migrant households receive coordinated, culturally competent support that promotes wellbeing, reduces risk, and strengthens community integration.
The contract is for 28 hours per week ideally over 5 days but could facilitate 4 days.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Direct Support to Migrant Families
- Provide holistic, person-centered support to migrant households, including those in temporary accommodation.
- Build trust with families facing trauma, displacement, or exploitation.
- Help families understand UK systems (housing, welfare, education, health) and overcome language barriers.
Housing Support & Tenancy Preparation
- Explain tenancy rights and responsibilities in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Support families in maintaining stable homes and addressing potential issues.
- Assist with housing applications, documentation, and move-on planning.
Access to the Private Rented Sector (PRS)
- Search for suitable PRS properties, liaise with landlords and agents.
- Prepare families for property applications, viewings, and tenancy sign-up.
- Support families settling into new accommodation and understanding their rights.
Multi-Agency Partnership Working
- Act as a liaison between families and key partners (social care, health, education, etc.).
- Attend multi-agency meetings and advocate for families’ needs.
Safeguarding & Risk Management
- Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, connecting families with specialist services when needed.
- Maintain case notes, risk assessments, and support plans.
Reducing Temporary Accommodation Use
- Work with Housing Officers to reduce time spent in temporary accommodation.
- Help families overcome barriers and prevent repeat homelessness through tenancy support.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
- Experience working with vulnerable families, migrants, refugees, or people with complex needs.
- Understanding of housing rights, welfare systems, and tenancy sustainment.
- Ability to work in a culturally competent, trauma‑informed manner.
- Strong communication skills, including working with interpreters.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures for adults and children.
- Ability to build positive relationships with landlords, agencies, and community partners.
- DBS check
