Private Sector Housing Officer / Environmental Health Officer

Location: Godalming & Guildford (Hybrid – 3 days in office, 2 from home)

Contract: Full-time on rolling contract

Salary: £39.00 per hour

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Private Sector Housing Officer to join our Regulatory Services team. You will play a key role in maintaining and improving housing standards across the borough, ensuring residents live in safe, healthy homes. This hybrid role offers the flexibility of working both in the office and from home. The successful candidate will also carry out regular site inspections, so access to your own vehicle is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake inspections and investigations relating to housing complaints, HHSRS assessments, Houses in Multiple Occupation, statutory nuisances, and caravan sites.
• Take enforcement action where necessary, including preparing reports, serving notices, and giving evidence in legal proceedings.
• Support energy efficiency initiatives and contribute to developing team policies and procedures.
• Work collaboratively with internal departments, councillors, and external partners including Social Services, Health Authorities, and the Fire Service.
• Provide professional advice to landlords, tenants, and members of the public on housing standards and relevant legislation.

We are looking for someone with:

• Extensive experience in Private Sector Housing within a local authority setting.
• A strong understanding of housing and environmental health legislation.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and teamwork skills.
• A proactive and professional approach to enforcement and service delivery.
• A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle for site visits.
