Job Description

Senior Claims Handler / Insurance Officer
Location: Hybrid (Remote with 2 days per month in the Solihull office)
Contract: 3–6 months (Temporary, with potential to become permanent)
Rate: £250–£260/day — flexible for the right candidate
Start Date: ASAP
 
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Claims Handler / Insurance Officer to join their Insurance Team. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a key role within a public sector environment, overseeing insurance claims and supporting the day-to-day management of the Council’s insurance programme.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage your own caseload of insurance claims, primarily personal injury and third-party property claims (Public and Employers Liability)
  • Supervise and provide first-line management to a small claims team
  • Deputise for the Insurance Manager when required
  • Liaise with insurers, brokers, solicitors, and internal departments
  • Ensure compliance with civil procedure rules in all aspects of claims handling
  • Represent in court where necessary and conduct site visits
  • Support the procurement, renewal, and administration of the Council’s insurance programme
  • Provide advice to staff on existing insurance policies
  • Assist in handling Freedom of Information requests and producing management information
  • Maintain accurate records using systems such as Evo or JCAD LACHS

Candidate Profile:

  • Proven experience in insurance and claims handling within a local authority or public sector organisation
  • Strong understanding of civil procedures and relevant insurance legislation
  • Background in managing public and employers liability claims
  • Experience advising internal stakeholders on insurance coverage and liability
  • Comfortable working independently and leading a small team
  • Familiar with insurance systems such as Evo or JCAD LACHS

  • Flexible working arrangements: mostly remote, with only two in-office days per month required
  • Open to candidates interested in temporary-to-permanent opportunities
  • Candidates at all levels of insurance experience will be considered, except managerial level
  • Rate is flexible depending on experience
