Job Description

YOS Court Officer
Birmingham
02/06/2025 – 2.5 months initially
Monday to Friday, 8.45am – 5.15pm, 37 hrs/week – Office based (Bank Holidays and Saturdays are worked on a rota basis)

  • Undertake OOC assessment and case management
  • Effectively manage and monitor young people going through the court process and referral order panels
  • Helping children with the consequences of their offending, for their victim(s), for themselves, their families and their communities
  • Ensure that work with young offenders has at its’ core a ‘restorative’ approach that addresses the needs of victims of crime, through the provision of a rehabilitation programme to change young people’s behaviour
  • Participate in the provision and use of information in relation to identifying the needs of young people and families and in measuring effective outcomes
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Youth Justice Plan and performance measures within
  • Deliver a range of interventions and group work which tackle the factors which place a child at risk of offending
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective use of resources within the Youth Offending Service
  • Plan and implement diversion from court programmes where appropriate
  • Contribute to the remand and provision of Bail Support Services
  • Work in co-operation with other agencies and partners and key stakeholders in the local community
  • Act as Case Managers for court orders where appropriate
  • Compile and present Pre-Sentence Reports and other reports
  • Build effective local strategies to reduce crime by children by working collaboratively with partner agencies
  • Attend meetings reviews and conferences where necessary

Requirements

  • Significant Youth Justice experience 
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency setting with young people involved in the Criminal Justice System and knowledge of the criminal legislation as it affects youths
  • Experience of using Care Director and completing Asset +’s
  • Experience of assessment, planning and delivering intervention/programmes
  • Experience of preparing formal reports, carrying out safeguarding assessments, evaluating risk, and dealing with safeguarding issues
  • Ability to work on your own initiative is essential
  • Enhanced Child and Adult DBS registered the update service
