Are you a passionate Hostel Manger looking for your next role? 4Recruitment Services are currently recruiting for a Hostel Manager to work in a homelessness service based in Derby.
Pay Rates: £18.42 – £26.00 Umbrella
- Information the Role: Successful candidates will be offered 37.5 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. The working patterns are 8-4, 9-5, 10-6, 12- 7, 2-10, the working days are flexible Monday- Sunday.
What you will be doing:
- Manage the day-to-day running of two hostel sites, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
- Oversee rotas, on-call cover, site security, and compliance with Health & Safety and housing regulations.
- Respond to and manage emergency situations, incidents, and escalations as they arise.
- Monitor budgets, maintain financial accountability, and manage procurement of supplies and services.
- Collect and report on operational data, incidents, and KPIs to senior leadership.
- Lead, supervise, and support a team of approximately 15 staff, including recruitment, induction, performance management, and absence management.
- Develop a strong, high-performing team culture grounded in empathy, professionalism, and accountability.
- Provide clear direction, regular supervision, and continuous development opportunities for staff.
- Maintain a resident-focused approach that prioritizes safety, respect, and dignity.
- Oversee resident conduct, enforce house rules, and handle complaints and disputes as needed.
- Ensure the hostel environment supports residents’ ability to maintain accommodation and move forward in their lives.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with local authorities, referral agencies, outreach partners, and emergency services.
- Represent the hostels at external meetings and forums where appropriate.
Specialist knowledge skills and experience:
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to de-escalate conflict and build rapport with diverse individuals.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing demands and operate across multiple sites.
- Financially literate, with experience in managing budgets and resources effectively.
- Proficient in the use of IT systems including Microsoft Office and scheduling/rota platforms.
- Resilient, adaptable, and calm under pressure.
- Able to lead by example and set professional standards for others.
- Empathetic yet firm, maintaining appropriate boundaries while supporting a values-based service.
- A visible, hands-on leader who is engaged in daily operations and responsive to the needs of both staff and residents.
Essential experience:
- Proven experience in managing supported housing, homelessness services, or hostel environments.
- Strong track record in managing staff teams, including performance reviews, disciplinary matters, and rota management.
- Experience with operational oversight, including building management, compliance, and health and safety.
- Understanding of working with individuals experiencing homelessness, including those with complex needs or chaotic lifestyles.
